And now back to your regularly scheduled program. Oliver! I figured a Group Picture(montage) would make up for missing some days. But suffice it to say I still have three more to do to catch up by April 5th. I should be on #10 tomorrow. Expect more than one "Caricature Training" entry tomorrow. I've been listening to the Soundtrack and I couldn't get it out of my head. I'm also watching the movie now. And I should be going color for the last seven so expect that. Graphite on 9x12.

Special Coverage Continues: Backdrop 2-SPACE: The Final Toon-teir
This was finished Friday night at about 10pm. It took less time than the desert scene. I worked on it some on Thursday afternoon once I got it stapled up. I painted the sky and the mountains and then left around 9pm. The rest was completed on Friday. It was sprayed with a fixative on Saturday morning and hung just before lunchtime. This painting took about 15 hours to complete. Just like the other backdrop I had to paint several coats and deal with a wrinkled surface.
Fortunately, The wrinkles help the sky and ground on this painting.
This is looking at the picture from left to right. When I finished it reminded me of a Rock Album Cover for Pink Floyd or Led Zepplin. The stars turned out great thanks to white Airbrush paint. Thanks Ryan and Gene for the use of the airbrush and airbrush paint.
This view is from right to left. Again just like the desert scene the size is 11x6feet. I'd like to acknowledge my CD collection and Mom's boombox without which I would have gone mad in silence. Thank you "Weird Al", Dr. Demento, John Denver, numerous movie soundtracks, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Collective Soul, and TV Cartoon Soundtracks(just to name a few) you made painting along with music fun.

meep! -- the color comps
And Now for Something Completely Different: meep! meep!
Okay so this is why I didn't post yesterday or today. Suffice it to say, I will be catching up probably on Sunday though. Consider this a special presentation like the Peanuts Christmas cartoon instead of your regularly scheduled programming.
So I am doing two back drops for Six Flags St. Louis for the Front Mall. This is the first. They wanted a desert scene for some of their figures that stand around 31/2 to 4 feet tall. The Back drop measures aproximately 11x6 feet. It took two days painting mainly to get the color scheme right. I'll post the color comp I made and worked from. The Backdrop measures about 11x6 feet.
The outcome looks great with the character placed in front of the peice.
Tomorrow, weather permitting, we are going to put the Backdrop in the window and place the characters. I'll post those pictures as well. Oh yeah, Ill be painting the next one tomorrow. The plan is to be finished by Saturday. Details and pictures to follow. Stay tuned!

Caricature Training 4 of 15: The Clintons & Obama
Day 5. #4: The Clintons & Obama. Graphite and Pen on white paper 6x12(about).
EXCUSE for missing: Yesterday, I was helping to sandbag down in Fenton so I missed the post last night. Pres. Bush has declared seventeen counties in Missouri disaster areas. Fortunately where I live was not affected but we did experience about two days straight of rain prior to the trouble. This rain has swellled the Meramac and eventually will bring more water down from the north. I've heard this will reach Missouri on Saturday or Sunday. So they expect the river to rise more. Ohh yeah Fox 2 was at the site where we were sandbagging perhaps I was on t.v. Either way it does not matter I missed a deadline and I apologize. Please forgive me, Ohh loyal lookers.
As a BONUS to missing the aforementioned deadline, expect another post tonight in a couple hours. I want to make it before tomorrow but I might miss that deadline. Also I misplaced my pencil that I normally use so I went back to sketching. Hence the smaller size. So, CHECK BACK in around 12 MIDNIGHT for #5.
Thanks--jacmantoons.

Caricature Training 1of 15: "Weird Al"
In an effort to get back into shape for Six Flags. I have decided to do a CARICATURE a day til I begin work April 5, 2008. I counted out 15 week days until that first Saturday back. These will be pencil and airbrush the mediums I use down at the park. 8 will be in pencil 7 in airbrush are planned. And I will work on the same size paper reducing it for posting here. There is a list I will be working on but I feign to post that as I am sure it will change. Also, I am going to spend only about 10 to 25 minutes on each caricature as that is what I try to down there(unless otherewise specified). Each of the 15 CARICATURES will be posted by 10pm each weekday Monday through Friday. Feel free to comment.
