Rambo Redux

So a couple a monthes ago I drew Rambo. But, everytime I looked at it I kept thinking it could be better so said the inner voice. I like the idea of reworking something over perhaps one month I will draw just one person and see how many incarnations I can come up with. I heard it was done on another artist's blog but I don't know who. Great idea, perhaps after the holidays. 12x16 graphite and airbrush on white Strathmore paper.

Six Flags Work

Happy Halloween. So it's been awhile since my last post and now Six Flags is almost over. Before it ends on the second week of November. I thought I would include here some people I drew this year. Enjoy!

Return of the Artist

Hello fans!! It's been a long time... since just before Incredible Hulk opened which was AMAZ-A-ZING. I did an awesome caricature of Ed Norton. It's hung up at Six Flags St. Louis and TR liked it. I feel so honored. OK, OK I also did a caricature of Christian Bale for ther Dark Knight movie that's hanging up down there as well. That movie was I hate to say the best movie of the summer. What a great ending to a fantastic summer movie line-up. Expect a caricature of the late Ledgers' Joker.

So the above caricature is a personal one from my archives of a date I went on with a girl to the Zoo. It has some great memories(true story) that make me laugh every time I see it. Original size 12x16. Medium-pencil and airbrush.

The Reason this is NOT an Image post

Unfortunately there are just things that get out of hand. And I have not yet decided whether to get a new computer or a refurbished one. I am reading up on this and I will keep posting each Thursday words and how the situation goes until I get a working console. Sorry fans but, remember I have caricatures up at Six Flags St. Louis and I draw at church each Sunday. Feel free to swing by and take a gander. Til then remember to buy your tickets to The Incredible Hulk next friday. Hey, you could even pick up any season of the same named TV show and get a free ticket to see it in theaters!! I have two!! I'm excited. See you next Thursday.

Caricature Training 13 of 15: Rambo

Day: the next week. Caricature #13: Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo. An iconic acion figure he rose to fame in the early 80s and now I hear he's back and older. I think I am going to draw Sly as Rocky as well. Anywho, I drew this last Saturday and it will be up down at Six Flags at one of the Caricature booths down there. That reminds me, I have to draw Oprah and color her for the wall too. Enough said. Graphite and Airbrush on white paper 12x16(original size).

Yes last year I tried to draw her oodles and it didn't work see www.myspace.com/jacmantoons for the bad ones. Actually please don't. So after Denzel I began again. Caricature Training 9 of 15: Obama

Day 15. Caricature #9- Barack Obama. The Next Possible President? I guess we'll have to wait and see. For updates, elephants and donkeys watch your favorite news channels and I am sure they will totally say who is winning. Good luck, to all participants may the best one win(be elected). And until then watch for political Caricatures they are fun to draw.

Okay, I didn't make it with the 15 Caricatures by April 5th but you did get to see some cool backdrops. I have no new plans for this blogspot. But I did like trying for a Caricature a day and I will get 6 more up in the next week. Thanks for stopping by.

Caricature Training 7 of 15: Oliver!

And now back to your regularly scheduled program. Oliver! I figured a Group Picture(montage) would make up for missing some days. But suffice it to say I still have three more to do to catch up by April 5th. I should be on #10 tomorrow. Expect more than one "Caricature Training" entry tomorrow. I've been listening to the Soundtrack and I couldn't get it out of my head. I'm also watching the movie now. And I should be going color for the last seven so expect that. Graphite on 9x12.

Special Coverage Continues: Backdrop 2-SPACE: The Final Toon-teir

This was finished Friday night at about 10pm. It took less time than the desert scene. I worked on it some on Thursday afternoon once I got it stapled up. I painted the sky and the mountains and then left around 9pm. The rest was completed on Friday. It was sprayed with a fixative on Saturday morning and hung just before lunchtime. This painting took about 15 hours to complete. Just like the other backdrop I had to paint several coats and deal with a wrinkled surface.
Fortunately, The wrinkles help the sky and ground on this painting.
This is looking at the picture from left to right. When I finished it reminded me of a Rock Album Cover for Pink Floyd or Led Zepplin. The stars turned out great thanks to white Airbrush paint. Thanks Ryan and Gene for the use of the airbrush and airbrush paint.
This view is from right to left. Again just like the desert scene the size is 11x6feet. I'd like to acknowledge my CD collection and Mom's boombox without which I would have gone mad in silence. Thank you "Weird Al", Dr. Demento, John Denver, numerous movie soundtracks, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Collective Soul, and TV Cartoon Soundtracks(just to name a few) you made painting along with music fun.

Meep! In the Window

And here it is in the WINDOW. Finished! This was put in on Thursday. There are still some props that will be added and a sand drapery for the floor. Come see it on opening day April 5th this Saturday!

meep! -- the color comps

Okay this what I had in mind before I started painting. Sometimes great things happen on the canvas. (In this case vinyl canvas.) Pastel 1x3 inches more or less.

And Now for Something Completely Different: meep! meep!

Okay so this is why I didn't post yesterday or today. Suffice it to say, I will be catching up probably on Sunday though. Consider this a special presentation like the Peanuts Christmas cartoon instead of your regularly scheduled programming.
So I am doing two back drops for Six Flags St. Louis for the Front Mall. This is the first. They wanted a desert scene for some of their figures that stand around 31/2 to 4 feet tall. The Back drop measures aproximately 11x6 feet. It took two days painting mainly to get the color scheme right. I'll post the color comp I made and worked from. The Backdrop measures about 11x6 feet.
The outcome looks great with the character placed in front of the peice.
Tomorrow, weather permitting, we are going to put the Backdrop in the window and place the characters. I'll post those pictures as well. Oh yeah, Ill be painting the next one tomorrow. The plan is to be finished by Saturday. Details and pictures to follow. Stay tuned!

Caricature Training 6 of 15: Oprah

Caricature Training 5 of 15: John McCain

Day5. #5: John McCain. Graphite and Pen on white paper12x9(about). You know, I just don't think we are going to get a Republican President in the next election. That's what I think. Maybe that's the New York in me talkin'. I guess we'll see.

Caricature Training 4 of 15: The Clintons & Obama

Day 5. #4: The Clintons & Obama. Graphite and Pen on white paper 6x12(about).

EXCUSE for missing: Yesterday, I was helping to sandbag down in Fenton so I missed the post last night. Pres. Bush has declared seventeen counties in Missouri disaster areas. Fortunately where I live was not affected but we did experience about two days straight of rain prior to the trouble. This rain has swellled the Meramac and eventually will bring more water down from the north. I've heard this will reach Missouri on Saturday or Sunday. So they expect the river to rise more. Ohh yeah Fox 2 was at the site where we were sandbagging perhaps I was on t.v. Either way it does not matter I missed a deadline and I apologize. Please forgive me, Ohh loyal lookers.

As a BONUS to missing the aforementioned deadline, expect another post tonight in a couple hours. I want to make it before tomorrow but I might miss that deadline. Also I misplaced my pencil that I normally use so I went back to sketching. Hence the smaller size. So, CHECK BACK in around 12 MIDNIGHT for #5.

Thanks--jacmantoons.

Caricature Training 1of 15: "Weird Al"

In an effort to get back into shape for Six Flags. I have decided to do a CARICATURE a day til I begin work April 5, 2008. I counted out 15 week days until that first Saturday back. These will be pencil and airbrush the mediums I use down at the park. 8 will be in pencil 7 in airbrush are planned. And I will work on the same size paper reducing it for posting here. There is a list I will be working on but I feign to post that as I am sure it will change. Also, I am going to spend only about 10 to 25 minutes on each caricature as that is what I try to down there(unless otherewise specified). Each of the 15 CARICATURES will be posted by 10pm each weekday Monday through Friday. Feel free to comment.

1 of 15 "Weird Al" Yankovic. Graphite on 12x16.

first crumb to fall

This is old. But it's definetly shows my personality and it shows what I have done since the summer of 2002. This became the product of my First Assignment at the School of Visual Arts my alma mater in Cartooning Principles. My teacher was Klaus Janson, one of my favorite teachers. All apologies to Mort Drucker. I am still learning from him and Co.

Can you find these things? Alfred E. Neuman, Freddie the Freeloader, the Marx Brothers, Darth Maul, Beatles, the Muppets and the Kitchen Sink. They're all in there and then some. Happy hunting!! Thanks for stopping by.

Church Sketch #4

Another crumb. Full bodies are fun. I get a kick out of the tie everytime I see it. 8x10.5 in sketchbook.

Church Sketch #3

This crumb was done last Sunday the 27th. There were three speakers but the other one didn't turn out as well as I'd like. This time I used a Markette instead of the pens, pencils, and colored pencils I usually use. I like the how this turned out and it only ruined the backside of the page. Again 8x10.5in sketchbook.

Church Sketch #2

It's not Sunday yet, but I found some other crumbs worth showing. Same size 8x10.5. Done in the SIMPSON's style(all apologies but fun effects I think). This was sketched around the time you could SIMPSONIZE yourself coinciding with that really funny movie that came out. Consider this a fan art homage.

Church Sketches #1

Sundays, I go to church. Here I can be found doodling in my 8x10.5 inch sketchbook. Testimony meetings are great because anyone in the congregation can speak what they believe at the pulpit. Most times its at least a dozen people in about a 45 minute time period. I usually sit in the back on the left side. Expect an entry like this each SUNDAY. (One of my New Year's Resolutions for February on.)
